The Company > Our Background
ADS is a private corporation centred on
research, development, industrialization and commercialization of dynamic systems and equipment for ground, naval and space applications.
ADS assists other sector corporations, technological centres and universities by providing top level engineering focused on Control Systems Design and Development, Software Development, Systems Engineering and Trials.
ADS is registered in the Subcontractors Registry of the Basque Government (CAPV), the Corporation Registry of the Armaments and Materiel General Directorate (Ministry of Defence), and also in the On-line Registration System for ESA-Tenderers, of the European Space Agency (ESA).
Furthermore,
ADS is partner of the HEGAN Cluster, “Basque Country Partnership for Aeronautics and Space”, whose main purpose is to foster the development of an aeronautical and space industrial and technological base, giving response to the strategic sector challenges.
ADS’ historical background is summarised in the following paragraphs.
February 2003:
The Company is established by a group of aerospace experts.
April 2004:
ADS begins its activity with the kick-off of the AGA project. The AGA -Advanced Gyroscopic Actuator-, is a type of Control Moment Gyro (CMG), device employed in Attitude and Orbit Control Systems for satellites. ADS leADS the Working Group consisting of the following Companies and Organisations:
Centre for Aeronautical Technologies, Basque Country (CTA).
Engineering, Design and Analysis (IDA, SL), a mechanic engineering Company.
Department of Missiles and Space Vehicles (MYVE), Aeronautical Engineers School – Polytechnic University at Madrid
The project is being financed by several aids (R&D) granted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism (MITYC) –through a NEOTEC project and the Space National Plan (PROFIT 04), and the Basque Country Government (CAPV).
September 2005:
The following project phase -Design and Development Phase-is started, also supported by the MITYC and CAPV. Appropriate Engineering, Qualification and Flight Models are to be build, within the overarching framework of the MicroSat Scientific Programme, developed by the National Institute for Aerospace Techniques (INTA). A Partnership Agreement has been subscribed between INTA and ADS, in order to an AGA flight model will be embarked into the MicroSat-1 satellite as technological payload, forecasted to set in orbit during 2010.
Alongside, ADS starts the Gyroscopic Engine Project (MGIRO) -as a subsequent application of the AGA technologies in the automotive domain-, heading the Feasibility Phase.
December 2005:
Meanwhile the design and development of an AGA Engineering Model for the MicroSat-1 Project is well progressing, the initial phase of the project (Definition Phase) is concluded with the positive results of the Verification and Validation Trials for the Technological Demonstrator built. AGA patented technologies are therefore validated. Institutional support from The Basque Government and the Alava province Head Office is also received.
Nowadays:
ADS is currently leading several partnership projects with different companies and organisms belonging to the Spanish aerospace sector. We are also consolidating our foreign presence through the participation in projects and activities promoted by diverse aerospace fora and international organisations, like the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Union (EU).
ADS provides response to several engineering needs placed in the market. Our workforce, consisting of a wide range of experts, provides top-level system engineering services focused on project management, or developing conceptual design tasks, control systems design and development, verification and validation tests, and trials. We offer, to sum up, expert engineering, allowing us to play a key partner role in our customer’s production process.
Taking advantage of the experience gained throughout the AGA Project, we have consolidated a solid infrastructure that allows an integrated corporative management. This feature has enabled us to focus on the aerospace sector, with a great attention to Research, Development and innovation activities (R&D+i). In this sense, as a highlighting example, ADS has been certified in Quality Management Systems against ISO 9001:2000 and UNE EN 9100:2003 norms. Furthermore, ADS has implemented a Technological Surveillance and Competitive Intelligence (TS&CI) System, operational since June 2005. Finally, the Toribio Echevarria Award to the Technological Innovation, presented to ADS in November 2005, is a clear proof of our success.
Future:
ADS strives for becoming a modern company, transparent and with an inherent rising capability. To do so, we aim at the Total Quality concept. Furthermore, in order to expand our capabilities to new markets, ADS intends to be certified in accordance with PECAL 2120 (NATO requirements for quality assurance during production) and PECAL 160 (NATO requirements for software quality during lifecycle), which set forth part of the normative NATO framework for Quality Assurance.
ADS intends to continue investing on Research, Development and Innovation (R&D+i), to enhance our technological capabilities and be able to fulfil the following strategic needs listed in the National plan for Space 2004-2007:
Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystems (AOCS) for satellites and space vehicles.
Systems Engineering and Reliability applied to integrated platforms.
Integration, Testing and Monitoring Software.
Integration processes and Trials.
